Prayer and Worship

Altar Servers The altar servers of St. Thomas More Cathedral assist in the many liturgies celebrated at the Cathedral. New servers are always welcome. Art and Environment The Art and Environment Committee is responsible for maintaining a seasonally appropriate, beautiful sacred environment within the Cathedral.  This is vital to the proper celebration of the Sacred Liturgy not only for parish services, but for the Diocesan services as well.   If you are interested in this ministry, contact Barbara Ilacqua, 703.598.6210 or by email.
Choir – Adult The Music Ministries of the Cathedral of St. Thomas More serve the Cathedral Parish and the Diocese of Arlington, VA.  As the mother church of the Diocese of Arlington, The Cathedral of St. Thomas More is filled with wonderful choral and instrumental music throughout the liturgical calendar, from regular services, weddings and funerals to Diocesan events such as the Rite of Election, Confirmations, Dicaononate and Priesthood Ordinations.  If you are interested in this ministry, contact Richard Gibala, 703-524-2815 or by email.
Choir – Youth The St. Thomas More Youth Choir is open to any student in the Third through Eighth grades currently enrolled at St. Thomas More Cathedral School or registered as a member of the parish. Rehearsals take place once a week (on Thursday afternoons) immediately after school. The Youth Choir generally sings twice a month at parish and/or diocesan liturgies, including the Sunday 9:30 Mass at the Cathedral, diocesan events, sacramental liturgies, community events, and other parish celebrations.  If you are interested in this ministry, contact Andrea Scully by email.
Choir – Handbell The Handbell Choir rehearses on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 – 8:30 PM.  Being a ringer entails the serious commitment of each member to the ensemble’s rehearsal and liturgical schedule.  If you are interested in this ministry, contact Music Office (703)524-2815.
Eucharistic Minister Extraordinary Ministers for the distribution of Holy Communion are properly formed, instructed and commissioned lay persons.   These ministers aid in the distribution of Holy Communion at Mass and to the sick and homebound.  Ministers must be Catholics in good standing who are themselves able to receive the Eucharist. Eucharistic Adoration Eucharistic Adoration occurs on Thursdays from 12:30 – 8:30 pm in the Cathedral.   If you are interested in participating, contact the rectory at (703)525-1300.
Parish Vocation Join parishioners in praying for vocations.  Learn various ways that you can pray for vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life.   If you are interested in this ministry, contact Ed Finney, (703)521-3567 or by email.
Sanctuary Society Serve The Lord as Mary and Martha did by joining the STM Cathedral Sanctuary Society. The Sanctuary Society is responsible for maintaining the upkeep and cleanliness of the Sanctuary and daily worship. Ushers Ushers are present at all Masses on Sundays and Holy Days, as well as the Vigil Masses on the preceding days, at special and Diocesan Liturgies.  Ushers perform a number of duties, including assisting the Faithful who attend these Liturgies in finding their way into the Cathedral and the pews, maintaining general order, providing assistance to those in need or in time of emergency, taking up the collection and in the Offertory procession.  If you are interested in this ministry, please contact Peter Bouffard by email.
