The Cathedral of Saint Thomas More News:

The Joyful Mysteries

Said on Mondays and Saturdays

The Joyful Mysteries are marked by the joy radiating from the event of the Incarnation.
To meditate upon the joyful mysteries is to enter into the ultimate causes and the deepest meaning of Christian joy. It is to focus on the realism of the mystery of the Incarnation and on the obscure foreshadowing of the mystery of the saving Passion. Mary leads us to discover the secret of Christian joy, reminding us that Christianity is, first and foremost, evangelization, “good news”, which has as its heart and its whole content the person of Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh, the one Savior of the world. – Pope John Paul II

1. The Annunciation
The Angel Gabriel appears to Mary, announcing she is to be the Mother of God.

“And when the angel had come to her, he said, ‘Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women.’” (Luke 1:28)

“Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and cried out in a loud voice: ‘Blest are you among women and blest is the fruit of your womb.’” (Luke 1:41-42)

3. The Nativity
The Virgin Mary gives birth to the Redeemer of the World.

“She gave birth to her first-born Son and wrapped Him in swaddling clothes and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the place where travelers lodged.” (Luke 2:7)

Fruit of the Mystery: Poverty

4. The Presentation
The Blessed Mother presents the Child Jesus in the Temple.

“When the day came to purify them according to the law of Moses, the couple brought Him up to Jerusalem so that He could be presented to the Lord, for it is written in the law of the Lord, ‘Every first-born male shall be consecrated to the Lord.’” (Luke 2:22-23)
