Godparents have specific responsibilities to assist the parents in raising the child as a Catholic. You may select up to two Godparents: one male and one female. The Godparent must be a Catholic in good standing meaning he or she is a baptized, confirmed and if married, in a valid Catholic marriage. If you have only one Catholic godparent, you may choose to have another person who is a baptized Protestant participate in the baptism ceremony as a Christian Witness.
