The Cathedral of Saint Thomas More News:

New to the Parish

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the Cathedral of St. Thomas More!  As the Bishop’s church, the Cathedral, dedicated in 1974, is the host of Sunday worship, liturgical events, diocesan events and celebrations and is also the home parish to over 2,000 families from all over Northern Virginia.  The Cathedral houses the “Cathedra”, the Bishop’s chair and symbol of his teaching authority as Chief Pastor and Shepherd.   Major liturgical feasts and celebrations are held in the Cathedral such as Christmas Midnight Mass, Holy Week, Easter, the Rite of Election, the Chrism Mass and the ordinations of Bishops, Priests and Deacons.

The people of the Cathedral Parish community represent a wide variety of age groups, backgrounds, experiences, occupations as well as an active Hispanic community. Additionally, on the grounds is a Pre K – 8 nationally recognized Blue Ribbon School of Excellence – St. Thomas More Cathedral School.

The Cathedral also welcomes many “weekday” parishioners at our daily Masses – those who work in the area but attend Mass at their home parishes on the weekends.  If you are visiting the Northern Virginia area, we hope that you will join us for a weekday or Sunday Mass.  If you are looking for a parish to call “home”, please learn more about us from a member of the pastoral staff or parishioners. I hope you will find your visit to this website helpful.  We are glad that you are considering the Cathedral as your parish community.  Know that you are always welcome at the Cathedral of St. Thomas More.

Sincerely In Christ,

Very Reverend Patrick L. Posey
Rector
