First Holy Communion Liturgy / La Liturgia de la Primera Comunión: Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 11:00 am

All First Communicants must be in Burke Hall no later than 10:15am to get lined up. Parents may sit in any unreserved pews in the Cathedral. While we understand First Communion day is special and family and friends may wish to give your child a gift for the Mass (i.e. Rosaries, prayer booklet, small purse or bag or gloves), we ask that children not carry these items in Mass.  We will have the child leave them in Burke Hall if they arrive with them.

Traditionally the students are very dressed up for the First Communion Mass. If purchasing the attire for your child places a financial burden on your family, please let us know. We have a selection of dresses to loan and we can help with other items of clothing for boys and girls as well.

For the girls, they should wear a white dress with shoulders covered. If you purchase a spaghetti strap, tank, or halter top dress, your child must wear a white sweater to cover her shoulders throughout the Mass.  Sleeveless dresses are acceptable as long as the top of the shoulder is covered. Girls should also wear white shoes with white socks or tights, and a white veil or headband (optional).

For the boys, they should wear a white or light-colored shirt, tie (white or other), dark dress pants and dress shoes, and a suit jacket (optional).

Following the First Communion Mass, there will be a reception in Msgr. Burke Hall for family and friends provided by the STM School Third Grade Room Parents. We invite you to join us. Please be sure to pick up your child’s First Communion certificate (and First Communion banner, if they made one during the retreat) in Burke Hall following the Mass.

Todos los estudiantes deben llegar a Burke Hall (el basement) a más tardar las 10:15am para ponerse en fila. Los padres pueden sentarse en las bancas que no están reservadas en la Catedral. Entendemos que el día de la Primera Comunión es especial y su familia y amigos podría darle a su hijo/a un regalo para la Misa (es decir: Rosarios, folleto de oración, pequeño monedero/bolsa o guantes), le pedimos que los niños no lleven estos artículos en la Misa. Si su hijo/a llegan con ellos tendrá que dejarlo en Burke Hall.

Tradicionalmente los estudiantes deben estar bien vestidos para la Misa de la Primera Comunión. Si la compra de un traje para su hijo/a es una carga financiera para su familia, por favor háganoslo saber. Tenemos una selección de vestidos que podemos presentarles y también podemos ayudarles con otras prendas de vestir para niños y niñas también.

Las niñas, deben llevar un vestido blanco con los hombros cubiertos. Si usted compra un vestido  con tiras o sin mangas, su hija debe llevar un suéter blanco para cubrir sus hombros durante toda la Misa. Vestidos sin mangas son aceptables siempre y cuando la parte superior del hombro este cubierto. Las niñas también deben usar zapatos blancos con calcetines blancos o medias y un velo blanco (el velo es opcional).

Los niños, deben usar una camisa blanca o de color claro, una corbata (blanco o de otro tipo), pantalones de vestir de color oscuro y zapatos de vestir y una chaqueta de traje (la chaqueta es opcional).

Después de la Misa, habrá una recepción en  Burke Hall para familias y amigos ofrecida por la clase de tercer grado de la Escuela STM. Le invitamos a unirse a nosotros. Por favor, asegúrese de recoger el certificado de la Primera Comunión de su hijo/a (y la bandera, si hicieron una durante el retiro) en Burke Hall después de la Misa.
