The Cathedral of Saint Thomas More News:

Confirmation Preparation

“When the day of Pentecost came it found them gathered in one place. Suddenly from up in the sky there came a noise like s strong driving wind which was heard all through the house where they were seated. Tongues as of fire appeared which parted and came to rest on each one of them. All were filled with the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2:1-3)

The Sacrament of Confirmation is one of the three sacraments of Christian initiation. Confirmation completes Baptism, by which in the laying on of hands and the anointing with Chrism Oil, which first happened at Baptism, we are confirmed with the fullness of the Holy Spirit. We are reminded of our participation in the ministry and mission of Jesus and strengthened to follow Him more closely.

Students in our Religious Education program begin their pre-preparation for Confirmation during their 7th Grade year, complete a full year of Confirmation preparation in eighth grade, and are Confirmed in the fall of ninth grade. During this time of preparation, the student is asked to commit to completing a series of Sacramental Preparation Requirements to include a saint report, service hours record, and a service hours report. In addition, each student must faithfully participate in Mass every Sunday and Holy Day of Obligation.

Remember parents are the first teachers of the faith to their children and therefore are required to take part in the sacramental preparation to enable them to understand the meaning of the sacrament and the commitment they will make to support their child’s growth in faith and life.

STM School students will be Confirmed in the fall of their eighth-grade year. Religious Education Students will be Confirmed in the fall of their ninth-grade year.

Any High School students who have not received the Sacrament of Confirmation should speak to the Religious Education staff for proper class placement.
